turning down the vent

Just talked to her nurse on the phone.  She said that Sophie's surgeon came by this evening after we left and ordered the ventilator turned down.  It went from 30 breaths/min down to 26.  At 3am they will turn it down to 22, which means she was doing good on 26.  After they turn it down, they look to see that she picks up the slack and keeps the b/min in the 40-60 range on her own.  In the morning they'll do some more blood gas tests to make sure she's still handling it okay.
