almost back to her fighting weight
Sophie gained an ounce yesterday, putting her at 3lb4oz, or 1oz below her birthweight. Apparently newborns almost always lose weight the first few days as they use up their stores. She dipped down to almost 3lbs after birth. The Dr has upped her milk allotment to 10mL (2 tsps) every 3hrs. It has gone up 2mL/feeding every day since Thursday. The goal is for her to be 2kg, which is about 4lbs6oz.
She seems much more settled nowadays. She is less startled by noises and sleeps more heavily and longer. This is good. Eating + sleeping = growing.
They did the echo cardiogram today, so maybe there will be news on that tomorrow. We did discover the medical library in the basement of the hospital (sounds dreary, but it was really quite pleasant). They loaned us a book on preemies and one on common heart issues in children. They have a room just for parents that has a bunch of medical books for the "layperson" and some computer workstations also for parents to use to check email, upload pics, etc while there.
