PowWow pics

Today the kids at Sophie's school had a pow wow. She did well and whooped and how'ed when she was supposed to. Looked like all the kids really enjoyed it. And on Friday they get to wear their head-dresses again for their feast, since the school is closed all next week.

Troublemaker

Yesterday on the way home from school, I was asking Sophie about her day and asked her if a little boy in her class cried. She said no, then said, "Sophie."

"You cried?"
"Yes."
"Was someone mean to you?"
"Yes."
"Who was mean to you?"
"Mrs. ..." (her teacher's name)

Hmm, so when we got home, I looked in her notebook. Her teacher wrote that Sophie ran out the door, then laughed when the teacher made her sit next to her and ran out again, then got sent to the director's office for a few minutes. The note said, "Please talk to her."

It was hard for me not to chuckle a little about this. But we talked about what she did, that it was wrong, and that she needs to listen to her teacher and stay in her classroom.  And she said yes, she would stay in her class.  Later, we went to Walgreens to pick up something.  I was looking at the shelf reading labels, and Sophie runs off down the aisle.  I called after her, but didn't chase her.  She came back and laughed and then did it again.  I got down and spoke to her about how we didn't do that and did we need to have a timeout in the car?  She said no, and then behaved herself after that.

I talked to the teacher after school today, and she said that Sophie did much better today, but just seemed kinda off yesterday.  Hopefully, it's not that she's not getting bored with the new school.  But I wouldn't be surprised?  After all, how many days can you spend talking about one color (red)?  Anyway, tomorrow is Sophie's day to take snacks for the class, so we had to stop and buy a dozen (red) apples today.

New School

Yesterday we went to the open house they had.  You could bring the kids in to see the classroom and meet the teachers.  When we got there yesterday, Sophie looked around at some of the toys, checked out the play kitchen, sat at a little table, turned to me and said, "Bye Bye DaDa."  So she was ready.

But today was the official first day of school.  The teacher said Sophie did great.  She was speaking up and answering questions and had a great day.  When she got in the car, first thing she said was "school tomorrow."  (She says this all the time anyway, but I took it to mean she liked it.)

Leaving Journey Learning Center

Today was Sophie's last day at her old school.  She starts the new one on Thursday.  Today they had a party for her.  She and I made cookies to take.  And they made her the star today, singing ring-around-the-rosie to her and letting her sit at the head of the table.  And there were balloons and bubbles.  She had a ball.  I'm not sure she understands yet that she's not going back, but we've been talking about it for the last few days.  And she's seen some of the other kids there leave.  She's pretty good with change, so I think she'll be okay with the transition.  Here's some pictures from the party and a video at the end.
