still doing okay
That's good for her, but less comfy for us. There they feed, change, and take her temp more often. But it is more crowded, LOTS of alarms and buzzers going off constantly, stricter visitation, and no comfy chairs. Now in the PICU we have a couch and a rocker to rest in when we're not at her bedside. But we will also get to hold her more again over there, which we haven't gotten to do since Monday morning pre-op.
Plus, she may like it better with all the beeping and noise of the NICU. That's the only thing she ever knew for the first 2 weeks of her life. Maybe the relative quiet is disturbing for her. And I know she'll feel more snug back in the NICU because they have small "isolettes" with a lid on them that they can shut and make the babies feel secure. In the Peds unit she's on an open bed with a warmer way above her. This openness may have contributed to some of her discomfort and unease, too. Yesterday they wrapped her up tight like a little tamale and she was happier, even off the sedative. Her grandmother even got her to take a (smaller, thankfully, this time) pacifier. First time I'd seen Sophie really sucking on one and she was going to town. Of course, I guess when you've only had an IV glucose drip for 3 days, anything sounds good.

Love the photo of Aunt Jereane. What a treat for her to coax Sophie into taking a passie. Monica
