Due Date!

Well, today Sophie is 6wks and 1day old, which is how early she was born because today is her due date.  So technically, she is no longer a preemie!  It is so strange to think that Stephanie would have still been pregnant this whole time.  The delivery seems so long ago.  One of the advantages is that it has given us all this time to get to know our daughter (we would still not have known we even had a girl) and to learn what she is like.  We still wouldn't know how red her little face gets, or how she stiffens her chin up, or what she sounds like, or any of that.  Of course, we'd have rather not had all the risks, but there have been some advantages.  Every once in a while I remind Stephanie how she would have still been carrying her around and how much bigger she would have been.

Today I had a mixed day bottle feeding Sophie.  The good part was that she took just about an entire bottle (38mL out of 40).  This is the most I've seen her take!  We kept working at it and the nurse let us go a little longer than the 30 alloted minutes since Sophie was still trying.  Then, she spit back up about 10mL of it, which was the bad side.  But the fact that she took that much from the bottle is great.  Last night at her 2am slot, she took 25mL, which is also very good.  I also spoke with our neonatologist today and she said that she had reviewed the notes the speech therapist left, which convinced her that part of the issue could still be coordination problems.  So that is good.

Before I left, they also gave her a transfusion, which did not make her happy.  The worst part was that the nurse had to hold her arm still for a long time while she tried to find a vein.  This made her madder than the actual sticking part, I think.  But between all that fussing and all the work of eating, I'm sure she's slept good for the rest of the day.
