little tumbleweed
Well, last Friday Sophie started rolling over ... and she hasn't stopped since! She rolls on the floor, in her bed, on the changing table, on your lap, and anywhere else she can. She'd been trying to do it for a couple weeks, but could only get from her tummy to her back, and then she'd be stuck. She was getting really close for a couple days, and did turn over when we put her in her crib one night. But Friday it "clicked". I came back from running an errand and my mom said she was now just rolling everywhere.
And now we've learned that she definitely has a preference for sleeping on her tummy. I know that they're supposed to be on their back, but short of strapping her down, there's no way we can prevent it now.
She also now raises her whole body off the ground except her hands and tippytoes. And she will sit there on her hands and knees rocking back and forth and teeter. Her ortho doctor said that she will be crawling before too long. Speaking of the ortho doctor, Sophie had an xray of her hips today and they are fine. There was/is a chance that as she grows, her hip might still be misaligned and require a brace again or possibly surgery. But he drew some lines on the xray, measured some angles, and said she looks good and he'll see us again in 6 mos. Yay! That was a big relief.
Sophie also got to meet her cousin Lindsey this past weekend. And we all got to meet Lindsey's daughter Lacee (well, technically Stephanie got to meet her the day after she was born, I guess). Lacee is 5mos old and super-cute and super-sweet. It was funny to see how much the two babies had so much in common, but you can already see some differences in their personalities. We had a good time, but Sophie was really tired. Things came to a head when we put them both on the floor together. They kinda stared at and reached for each other a little, but then one of them got scared and cried a little, which scared the other one who cried a little more, which scared the other one, etc and turned into a duet of wailing babies. But somehow, the adults found it funny. Anyway, we put Sophie to bed at 6pm and she slept til 8 the next morning, despite a big thunderstorm rolling through and knocking out power (and AC) for 6 hours!
I think her Sophie's sleep is improving. We're learning to recognize her sleepy signs more easily. Not just yawning and eyerubs, those are gimmes, but increased squawkiness, and sometimes she gets "loopy". Everything becomes funny for her, and then, all of a sudden, very sad. But we've gotten into a routine where she naps after each meal during the day and goes to bed a little earlier and a little easier at night. The downside is that she now wakes up between 6 and 7am, might take a little catnap around 8, then is up til 11am. This has been much easier for her to adjust to than me.
