Drug Free!

For I believe the first time in her life, Sophie won't be getting any
medications today. We are very happy about this both because it will
be easier and cheaper for us, but mostly because she can get that
stuff and all the associated side effects out of her system.

We saw the cardiologist on Wednesday. She said everything looks good
and that we'll have to come back in 2 months to make sure sophie's
blood pressure is still under control without the meds.

Today was the GI doc. He said the inflamation on the wall of her
stomach should be healed now and took her off the antacid. And he is
encouraged to hear that she is vomiting only once or twice a day
instead of once or twice per meal. But he is concerned with her (lack
of) weight gain. The 2 weeks after her surgery, she gained half a
pound. In the next 6 weeks, only 10oz. She is 14lb4oz right now, and
he said she should be getting more on track as she approaches her 1st
birthday. (she's still not on the growth charts, yet) So we are
supposed to supplement her diet with MCT oil. This is medium chain
triglycerides, or cholesterol free "good" oil. But actually it's just
coconut oil! This stuff is 120 calories per tablespoon, so it's an
easy way to get more calories with very little extra volume. Plus, it
makes her smell yummy.

I'll take that over all the pharmaceuticals she's been given the past
11 months.
