What's up doc?
Okay, so no cardio visit this week, that's not for a couple of weeks yet. But we did go to the orthopedist today and everything is great. He took an xray and said that things had actually improved since last time and that she had gone from the acceptable range to normal. So we have to go back in 1 year and if things look good, that'll likely be the last time she has to see him. Yay!
The GI appointment wasn't as good, I guess. She actually lost an ounce or two since the last weight check 3 weeks ago. So that had us a little disappointed, but overall since her last visit with the doctor in December, she did great. She's always been below the curve on the growth charts, basically just parelleling it, but this time her measurement jumped noticeably closer to the curve. She's 16.5lbs and 27".
He didn't really have an answer to the gagging herself situation, even though she's been doing it for a month now (and it's getting really old) and doesn't seem to be growing out of it as a phase. He said "he'd have to think about it," which I'm sure means he didn't know what to tell us. But he did agree that it's possible she's still having some reflux and that it wouldn't hurt to put her back on the antacid for a month or so and see if it helps.
He also said that since she was now a year old, we could go from giving her infant formula to PediaSure, which is kinda like a protein/supplement shake for kids. It's got a higher caloric content, which should help with weight gain without us having to give her oils to get extra calories. That's good because we went through coconut, olive, and flaxseed oil and didn't seem to find one that suited her tummy. And it means not having to mix formula and wash bottles all the time. Phew.
Other than that, Sophie is doing great. She's into everything. She loves taking a bunch of things out of a drawer, basket, box, etc and piling them behind her. But she's not so much for the putting them all back, yet. We need to work on that, so our house doesn't look so much like a toy explosion every evening. And she seems to have become much more vocal in the last few days. Mostly variations of dah-dah, but she will also screech back at you.
I keep hoping she will start taking one long nap now that she's a year old, but no dice. She sleeps great at night, usually from 8:15 to 7:15, but just will not nap longer than 1hr and 20 minutes. It doesn't seem to matter if she was up in the middle of the night or what time the nap starts. I've even tried stirring her in the middle to "reset", without luck. And she doesn't stir much when she comes out of it. She's just sleeping, then her eyes pop open and she immediately sits up. Trying to rock her back to sleep doesn't seem to work, either. You can spend 20-30 mins and get her back to sleep for another 10-15 minutes. The whole thing is so predictable that it would be fascinating if it weren't so frustrating. I guess it's better than waking up in the middle of the night, though.
