| Ready for the first day |
Monday was the first day of swim lessons. Sophie has taken a "water tots" class 2 or 3 times before at the city pools. That was with parents in the water with her. This year we decided it was time for swim classes, but we were a little concerned because we heard the kid has to be able to stand in the shallow end by themselves. This is hard when you're 3'1 and the shallow end is 3' deep. But it turns out that we didn't have to worry because some of the city pools are 2'6", and the class has lots of instructors, so one of them can work a few of the smaller kids near the steps.

| Ready to go |
Sophie absolutely loves being in the water and has no fear of jumping in or putting her head underwater. I think the instructor wasn't quite ready for this, and Sophie was hoping to do more, but it was still a good first session.

She has some things she needs to work on, like extending her arms straight out in front of her, keeping her legs straight when she kicks, cupping her hands for paddling, and sitting still when it's not her turn, but she's by no means behind. One little girl sat on the edge the entire 30 minutes and would not be tricked into getting in the water, though she did tolerate some splashing.
The class is MWF for 3 weeks, and then there are 3 more sessions throughout the summer. So hopefully by the end of August, she'll be a swimming little fish.
