New Digs
This was another big Monday for our little Sophie. I went to visit her in the NICU this morning & couldn't find her. She's not lost, just moved to the "step-down" unit, the Neonatal Progressive Care Unit. It's pretty much the same, but the focus there is on getting things ready for coming home. It's where they send the "feeder-growers". (This experience has expanded my vocabulary!)
Sophie also had her first experience with a bottle today. She's been very interested in the pacifier since recovering from surgery. She didn't quite get the hang of swallowing yet, but the doctor isn't too concerned. She's still at a young age developmentally. Also, her breathing is pretty fast and that can inhibit eating. (I told Sophie repeatedly that there was no pressure. We'll support her for as long as it takes to figure it out.) I'm really excited about the eating issue for two reasons. First and foremost, she has to be able to take all of her nutrition from the breast or bottle before she can come home. Second, it gives me a way to really participate in her care.
Sorry, no picture from this afternoon.
