Friday afternoon
Not much has changed. Sophie's weight went down a little today due to
lower fluid levels, but for the week it is up nicely We've had some
really good feedings over the last two days that have her doctor
optimistic.
We did get another visit from the speech therapist today and she
ordered a reflux test for Sophie on Monday. Basically, they take an
xray movie of her while she eats to see if things are going where
they're supposed to when she swallows. The reason is that when her
feeding starts, she does great. Yesterday she drank 12mL straight
without stopping! But after she comes up for air, she has trouble
keeping it in for the rest of the session. This also makes the doctor
think the eating issues might not be heart-related.
The orthopedist was supposed to come by today to fit her with a second
brace so they can wash this one that she's been wearing for two weeks
now, but I still haven't seen him. No one seems surprised by this.

I almost emailed you yesterday to suggest that you talk to the doctors about reflux. Our younger two kids had reflux, which is very common, and what you descibe is really what we exprienced, especially with Thomas. Hopefully that's all it is since there is medicine that can help and also wonderful feeding and post-feeding techniques that can greatly reduce the amount coming out...which is not only uncomfortable for Sophie, but can be a mess for those feeding her! It's amazing all the progress you all have made. You might not be able to see it since you see her everyday, but her little cheeks are starting to fill out. You all continue to be in our thoughts and prayers!
