pH study
this means the nurse sticks a wire up your nose and down into your
esophagus. This is connected to a little computer the size of a
paperback book. It has to stay in for 24hrs while the computer
continuously takes readings. They taped the wire to Sophie's face and
also gave us little Velcro braces to put on her arms, so that she
could not bend her elbows to reach the wire and pull it out.
(obviously, I didn't get pictures of this)
She wasn't happy at all about this, but handled it better than I
expected. What also made it difficult is that the computer has buttons
that you have to push whenever she lays flat, sits up, starts eating,
stops eating, cries, vomits, coughs, takes meds, etc. Whee! It was a
busy day. From what I could briefly tell by watching the readout, her
pH stayed in the normal range, but the Dr will get the official
results next week.
The good news is that she tipped the scales at 8.6 pounds--up half a
pound in less than a week. This reading is from a different scale, si
maybe a maegin of errie, but they are both digital and should be
pretty close. So maybe this new hypoallergenic diet they have her on
is helping.
Tomorrow is a GI ultrasound. Hopefully she is in a better mood than
the cardio one they tried to do last time!
