Day 1
Stephanie and I think it went very well. The morning is very busy,
but the afternoon is less crowded, there's time for naps/lunch, and
there are lots of toys and a couple of play areas. The first few days
are mostly evaluation. We got to feed her a few times with the
therapists and behavioralists observing, they'll feed her for the next
couple of days without us, then we go back and they start training us
on their methods.
Luckily, it's only 9:30-4:30, but it's still a busy day:
9:30 Feeding #1
10:00 Occupational therapy (fine motor skills)
10:30 break
11:00 Speech Therapy
11:30 Feeding #2
12:00 2 hour break (naps, lunches, etc)
2:00 Feeding #3
4:00 Feeding #4
Sophie did great on her first day, other than having trouble napping
in a strange, loud place. She wasn't afraid to be separated from us
with the therapists, and they said she has a good start, from her
background of doing therapy for the last 6mos. We are trying not to
set our expectations too high because these things take time and the
psychologist tells us that these kind of aversions and issues are
strongly ingrained and can take time to change, but we are thinking we
will probably see significant improvements from this process.
The other good news is that now that tax day is passed, Stephanie is
able to take Mondays and Wednesdays off. The program is
Monday-Thursday, so we will rotate taking Sophie: her MW and me TR.
