slow and steady

Yesterday they took Sophie's weight at therapy and she was 21lb 9oz. So she has gained 1.5 pounds since July. This is not phenomenal, but it indicates good steady gains, even on the reduced caloric intake the doctor and nutritionist recommended (maybe they do have some idea what they're talking about). After I just posted how we're on the waiting list for the inpatient program, last week the therapists told me that Sophie is doing so good, by the time January rolls around, she might not need to be in the program! Now they could change their mind three more times before then, but that's what we're hoping for.

Today is our first session with ECI and also her evaluation with their speech therapist. I'm looking forward to this. Even though everyone tells me once she starts talking, I'll wish she'd just shut up, it would still be nice for her to communicate with us more. Right now we're just starting to teach her some sign language. She knows Eat, which is hard to distinguish from just chewing on her fingers, and Help, which is her favorite and good for any situation.

This weekend Stephanie and I are going to RI for my brother's wedding. We're still not up for taking her on plane trips or to formal events, so Sophie will be staying with her Mimi. She'll have more fun doing that, anyway.
