T minus 1 week

Less than one week now until Sophie's surgery Monday the 20th. We are ready to get it over with. I don't know how they're going to keep her still in the hospital during her recovery, but I guess they've done this a few times before. We are looking forward to her recovering, getting this behind her, and getting bigger and stronger. She had her 9 month checkup at the pediatrician on Friday, and her weight has not changed since the last time we had it taken 3 or 4 weeks ago. The doctor said that at this point she's pretty much in a holding pattern. With the spitting up, we physically have trouble getting her enough food to get the extra calories she needs to grow. This would be a more worrisome issue if it wasn't for the surgery coming at this time.

After this, she won't have to burn so many calories double-circulating her blood. This should allow her to put on weight and get bigger. As she gets bigger, the spitting up should subside, which should allow her to put on weight and get bigger, etc.

Tomorrow morning we're going to have a Physical Therapy evaluation. She had been in OT (occupational therapy), but they think she may benefit more from PT. This is the same organization that did the initial eval back in July and recommended OT. I guess her development changed a lot since then? And don't ask me what the difference is, other than OT is more fine motor skills and PT is more large muscle groups? I don't know, but there are at least 4 therapists amongst our friends and families that check in here. Maybe they can clear it up.

Also, (due to popular demand) here are some non-Sophie pictures from our anniversary trip to Niagara Falls. We went to the botanical gardens, but didn't find any cabbages growing there. I'll let someone else explain that one, too.

Hey, so I'm not sure since I've only been in OT school for about a month and haven't had a whole lot of peds experience except Autism, but I'll try to tell you the difference.
OT tends to focus more on developmental/functional stuff like social skills (at her age, it would be eye contact with y'all, etc). PT is more walking, crawling, like you said..gross motor.
